Meet some of Wales’ finest physicians and surgeons:

Dr Manny Srivastava, MD FRCP

Manny, a Consultant Gastroenterologist, founded Nucleus Healthcare in January 2008. He has 25 years’ experience in gastroenterology and has published papers on inflammatory bowel disease and irritable bowel syndrome. Manny is trained in all aspects of gastroenterology and has a special interest in obesity and the gastric balloon procedure.

Dr Nimal Balaratnam FRCP

Nimal has been a Consultant Gastroenterologist at the Royal Gwent Hospital since 2003. He has become the pioneer and clinical lead of the capsule endoscopy service and also the clinical lead in gastroenterology in clinical governance, undergraduate teaching and endoscopy training, also actively participating in post-graduate teaching.

Nimal’s special interests include anaemias and the gastric balloon procedure.

Mr Jared Torkington MS FRCS

Jared is a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon, appointed to Cardiff and Vale NHS since 2002. He has undertaken research into laparoscopic surgery and is honorary clinical tutor to University Wales School of Medicine. Jared has a special interest in inflammatory bowel disease, endoscopy and laparoscopic surgery.

Mr Michael Nutt FRCS

Michael is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon originally appointed to West Wales Hospital in 2002, moving to the Royal Gwent Hospital in 2005. Michael’s special interests are the surgical treatment of stomach and oesophageal cancers, hernias and laparoscopic treatment of gallstones and bariatric surgery.

Mr Geoffrey Clark MD FRCS

Geoff is a Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal Surgeon who was appointed at the University Hospital of Wales in 2002. Geoff is also trained in gastrointestinal surgery and has a specialist interest in oesophageal and gastric cancer along with obesity and bariatric surgery.

Mr Simon Phillips MA DM FRCS

Simon is a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a broad laparoscopic practice, who trained in Oxford and Cambridge. His special interests include rectal prolapsed and pelvic floor disorders.

Dr Stephanie Matthews MBBCh PhD FRCPath

Stephanie is a Consultant in Medical Biochemistry and Immunology. Stephanie became a consultant at Llandough Hospital in 1988. She set up lipid services there and is an expert in lactose and food intolerance and allergy testing and has published widely on the subject.

A consultation with Stephanie can include targeted diet and symptom analysis with further investigation and support and advice as necessary.

Dr Ashley Roberts MD FRCR

Ashley has been a Consultant Radiologist with University Hospital of Wales since 2001. He is the UK pioneer of endoscopic ultrasound guided biopsy and his work has been widely published. Ashley provides a comprehensive imaging service.

Dr Mark Benard MRCP FRCR DipHSM

Mark was appointed to the Royal Gwent Hospital in 1992 as a Consultant Radiologist. Mark has been Clinical Advisor for the Department of Health and also provides comprehensive imaging within Nucleus.

Jame Greatorex MSc PGD BSc

Jamie is a Dietitian with a special interest in obesity and gastroenterology.

Jamie has a background in sports nutrition with a master’s degree in sports science.
