Haemorrhoids can cause a great deal of discomfort and misery for patients.
Haemorrhoids (piles) are vascular structures in the anal canal which can become swollen or inflamed. There are 2 types of haemorrhoids, external and internal which may be concealed from view.
Symptoms vary as there are different degrees of severity but generally can cause itching, rectal pain or rectal bleeding. A number of factors can lead to haemorrhoids including constipation, diarrhea, a low fibre diet and pregnancy.
Treatment depends on the type and severity of haemorrhoids and can include conservative treatment such as increasing dietary fibre or surgical intervention.
