Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease – GORD

What is heartburn?

Most people suffer from heartburn at one time or another. Heartburn has nothing to do with the heart — it is a problem with the digestive tract. A burning discomfort is felt behind the sternum, breastbone, rising up from the abdomen and occasionally moving up into the throat.

Heartburn is the most common symptom of Gastro-Oesophageal Reflux Disease, GORD.

Gastro-oesophageal reflux is when acid escapes from the stomach and rises up to the oesophagus or food pipe.
