I am 54 years old and had a weight problem all my life. I’ve tried every diet there is but nothing has ever worked long term. I’d often thought about more drastic action but didn’t want major surgery and didn’t have the money either.

When I saw the advertisement for the Gastric Balloon at Nucleus Healthcare, I wondered if that was a possibility for me. I was really scared when I arrived as problems with my weight was always something that I avoided talking about, but everybody was really friendly and put me at my ease. After this visit I knew that this was my one chance at losing weight. I knew from the beginning that this was not a quick fix and that I would feel sick too begin with.

The first month was unpleasant but I kept in close contact with the nurses at Nucleus Healthcare who kept me going and arranged for me to see the consultant. He told me to only eat things that I knew I could eat without being sick, that was toast for me.

After a week I didn’t feel hungry either, things got better all the time and I never looked back.

I lost an average 1½ to 2kg every fortnight and never felt hungry. After 6 months I lost 4 stone and went from a size24 to size 16. This is the best thing I ever did.
