Diet following gastric balloon placement
Following the placement of the gastric balloon there follows a weaning process back to a solid diet. For 24 hours after the procedure the individual will only be able to tolerate small amounts of water. Following this period it is usually possible to consume other fluids such as milk, diluted fruit juices and tea. After a few days on a liquid diet individuals are usually able to progress to softer foods such as porridge and soups, before progressing to solid foods after another 2-3 days. How quickly you progress will depend on your ability to tolerate the liquids and softer foods. It is important not to rush this adaptive phase, however, the transition from water to solid foods is usually be achieved within 7 days.
