Food Intolerance Clinic

Dr Stephanie Matthews is an expert in food intolerance, and lactose intolerance in particular. She ran a successful NHS clinic at Llandough Hospital for 5 years and has now joined forces with Nucleus Healthcare to offer the highest quality service in the private sector.

Referral criteria.

The people who have been seen and suspected of suffering with food intolerance or have symptoms of the following can be helped:-

• Irritable bowel syndrome
• Severe constipation
• Fatigue
• Muscle and joint pain
• Allergies e.g. itching, rhinitis (stuffy nose and sneezing)
• Heart palpitations
• Frequent headaches
• Severe loss of concentration

The consultation includes relevant history and examination, targeted diet and symptom analysis. The likelihood of the symptoms presented being caused by either a food intolerance or a food allergy will be discussed. Advice will be given and a written report provided.

Recommendation will be given for further investigation which could include

• Genetic testing for lactose intolerance
• Breath testing
• Blood analysis
• Testing for coeliac disease (gluten allergy)
• IgE allergy testing
• IgG allergy testing

Further support is available for

• Follow up consultation (clinic, email or phone)
• Further detective work to work out the specific intolerance/allergy
• Help with dietary manipulations to confirm and treat the intolerance/allergy
• Advice on drug therapies
• Advice on inherited conditions, whether other family members could be affected
• Advice sheets, books, scientific literature
